Charlie Dalin has achieved a monumental victory in the 2024-2025 Vendée Globe, completing the solo, non-stop, around-the-world sailing race in a record-breaking 64 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes, and 49 seconds.
This remarkable feat shattered the previous record of 74 days, 3 hours, and 35 minutes, set by Armel Le Cléac'h in the 2016-2017 edition, by over nine days.

Dalin's journey was marked by strategic prowess and resilience. He took a decisive lead on December 30 during the ascent of the Atlantic Ocean and maintained his position against formidable competitors. His nearest rival, fellow Frenchman Yoann Richomme, finished more than 120 nautical miles behind. Dalin acknowledged the intense competition with Richomme, stating, "Thanks to Yoann Richomme, he is one of the reasons why the record was broken; he pushed really hard and forced me to push hard as well."
The Vendée Globe, often referred to as the "Everest of the Seas," is renowned for its grueling nature, testing sailors' endurance and skill as they navigate treacherous waters alone and without assistance. This edition saw 40 skippers embark on the challenging journey from Les Sables-d'Olonne, France, covering approximately 45,000 kilometres around the globe.

Dalin's victory is particularly significant given his previous experience in the 2020-2021 Vendée Globe, where he crossed the finish line first but was ranked second after time compensations were applied to other competitors. This triumph not only cements his status among sailing's elite but also serves as a testament to his unwavering determination and exceptional sailing acumen.

Upon his arrival, Dalin was greeted by thousands of enthusiastic supporters in Les Sables-d'Olonne. The celebration featured blue, white, and red fireworks, inspired by the 2024 Paris Olympics, creating a festive atmosphere that contrasted sharply with the subdued reception of the previous edition, which was affected by COVID-19 restrictions.
